The First are wood woads that roam the forest inside the Shell of The Red Wastes. Every few years someone in the camps decides they can't bear it any longer and tries to find a way through the barrier, and children pass on stories about them. The tale is that the First were the earliest of these: people who used an ancient ritual to help the village survive and became part of the forest. As the forest grew corrupted, so did they. They would perish if taken outside the dome.
They are not the The First Men, whom the party dealt with in the same year.
