Fel Tower Dungeon

Event Campaign 3 · The Twilight Anarchy

An eightfold grown tower over an ancient oubliette.

Imported from Scabard, not yet reviewed

Setting:

  • A conical tower of inky black crystal, grown over months above an existing oubliette.
  • The structure appears fungal, stone-like but pulsing with a slow, living breath.
  • The upper floors contain barracks, a kitchen, offices, and an armory, connected by ladders.
  • The entrance leads to a balcony overlooking the central oubliette, which is sealed by an iris mechanism.
  • Three levers in separate rooms must be pulled simultaneously to open the iris. Several Eightfold corpses, frozen in moments of desperation, clutch at these levers, evidence of a last-ditch attempt to seal the oubliette.
  • Dozens of Eightfold corpses litter the halls, some slumped against walls, others reaching for weapons they never drew in time.

Upper Floors Layout:

  1. Barracks:

    • Busted up cots and armour half on the corpses of the bodies that called out of the cots.
    • A single skeletal hand gripping a dagger remains on one bed.
    • A rotting footlocker with an Eightfold insignia carved deep into the wood.
    • Ring of Regeneration
    • A tattered letter from a lover, written in delicate script
    • A wooden carving of a falcon, well-worn from handling
    • A scrap of parchment with hasty last words: "Tell my mother I fought well."
  2. Kitchen:

    • Stale, mold-covered rations.
    • A pot of something boiled dry to charcoal. A magical fire still burning below it.
    • A meal untouched, set for someone who never returned, now covered in sand and dust.
    • Amulet of Health
  3. Armoury:

    • Blades blackened by corruption.
    • A sigil of the Earth Sentinel embedded in the wall.
    • A crate labelled "For Reinforcements." It was never opened.
  4. Offices:

    • Scrolls describing the excavation.
    • The lieutenant's diary, bloodstained, the ink smeared as if written in terror.
    • When the diary is picked up, the shadows around the room flicker. A cold wind rises, and the corpses begin to stir.
    • Ambush Encounter: The Shadow Shades and the remnants of the Eightfold guards rise, their petrified flesh cracking as they move.

The Eightfold's Diary (Lieutenant Porlank):

  1. Arrival at the Sentinel's Order: We are to establish a watch point here and begin excavating the hillside.
  2. We have uncovered the sand covered ruin, the entrance is sealed by a huge disc, the oculus is in place but damaged. The engineers will have a fun few weeks.
  3. The Growth Begins: We seed the crystalline spores; the tower takes shape. I feel it pulse under my touch.
  4. Sacrifice Required: The mechanism demands a life to enter. A young soldier, barely a recruit, goes first. I detest this system, but we follow orders.
  5. First Descent: The pit whispers. We lower a lantern; it is swallowed by the dark. Something drags it down.
  6. The Sentinels last contact was days ago, and we have not heard from him since, our previous request for extrication denied, also previously requested reinforcements. Soldiers are vanishing from watch and anyone who ventures into the pit is lost. Some of them do it on their own, unordered...
  7. Second Descent: We hear them—something moves below, beyond sight. We've doubled the guard, but more descend unbidden each night.
  8. Third Descent: We send a scout with a sending stone, a brave soul named Horvik. The sending stone sent whimpers every morning for 3 hours. The magic doesn't work like that....
  9. Reinforcements Awaited: We are promised help, but none comes. The tower grows hungry, we should leave this place, but without the sentinel to return us we would wander the Shadowfell? I'm not sure if what's out there is worse
  10. Fifth Descent: Five gone. The tower does not let them return. It does not let us leave either.
  11. The Siege Begins: Shadow forms coalesce from the walls. They do not charge. They wait.
  12. The Engineers have repaired the oculus controls, but they are manual and must be triggered together, but sound attracts the dark beasts.
  13. Last Stand: We barricade, we fight. We hold the levers. I hear screaming from below, but my hands are locked tight. I see the men beside me turn to stone as they pull. I hear scratching at my throat. It is inside.

Final Scene: The oubliette yawns open, the petrified guards shuddering. Something stirs deep below, its whisper curling up the walls. A heavy silence settles before a low growl vibrates through the stone.
