Gloomtown

Gloomtown is a lower-middle-class district of Fort Obsidian, stuck in the shadow of The Grand Bazaar and the upper city and home to many middle managers, labourers and soldiers. It smells of mildew and damp, mould is common in its northern parts, and it is densely built with little greenery; aqueduct troughs fed by a spring in the west serve instead of wells. Its inns include the Watershed, a cheap and cheerful bar kept by the water genasi Tybalt, where every room has a dripping tap; the Blade and the Blade, a state-run military tavern near the district lift with a disarmed dragon-felling ballista in its common room; and the Fox and Treacle, a cosy bed and breakfast whose elderly gnome owner Margaret tells tall tales of riding foxes into battle.
