From a distance, this town is visible both above and below the water, a wired together floating behemoth of wood and

Consists of five distinct districts, each with its own unique characteristics, blending practicality with a touch of the mystical.

Water Columns and Currents:

  • Fluid Access: Rather than enclosed staircases, the city uses naturally occurring or magically enhanced water columns that act like vertical currents, allowing swift movement from the surface to the depths. These columns are stabilised by magical forces to ensure a steady flow that can be navigated by residents.
  • There are bubbling 5-foot tubes on the surface usually next to a spiral drain 5 foot tube, spirals go down, bubbles go up.
  • Navigational Aids in Water: Within the underwater districts, thick ropes extend between various points of interest, providing physical guides that residents can follow. Floating markers, imbued with bioluminescence, float at key locations to provide visual cues and enhance the mystical underwater ambience.

The Depths (below water)

Half-submerged, this mysterious district is a stark contrast to the lively market above. It is accessible via spiral staircases that descend into the water, leading to waterlogged homes and workshops. The buildings are designed with waterproof materials, and large bubble-like windows provide a view of the underwater world. This area is dimly lit, primarily by bioluminescent plants and creatures, giving it an ethereal, otherworldly glow. The Depths is accommodation for the air breathing denizens of the city.

The Helm (above water)

This district serves as the administrative centre of the city. It's where the city's council, and it houses various communal facilities and dry room sand bath. The architecture is more organised and fortified compared to other districts, featuring watchtowers and a great hall as well as areas of metal including a jail. Despite its importance, the Helm maintains the aesthetic of the rest of the city with buildings made from driftwood and recycled ship parts, all interlinked with sturdy vine ropes.

The Rainwalk (above water, under a rain cloud)

Located in the northern part of the city, this district is perpetually shrouded in rain, creating a fresh water source for the inhabitants. The Rainwalk is characterised by its constant, soothing rainfall and the lush vegetation that has thrived as a result. Buildings here have large rainwater catchment systems, and the streets are designed to allow easy water flow without flooding. This area is quieter, more reflective, serving as a place for contemplation and community gatherings.

The Drowned Gardens (below water)

The Drowned Gardens is an enchanted district below the water's surface, ingeniously blending agriculture and aquaculture. This area functions both as a lush, submerged farm and a magical fish trap, playing a crucial role in the city's sustenance. The farms here are arrayed in terraces along the sea bed, where water-breathing denizens cultivate a variety of underwater crops—kelp, sea cucumbers, and exotic, luminescent fruit that can thrive in the depths.

Incorporated into this verdant underwater landscape are intricate fish traps designed with ancient, arcane knowledge. These traps are invisible barriers that guide fish and other sea creatures into containment areas without physical barriers, using subtle enchantments to calm and corral them. Once enough seafood gathers, the barriers can be deactivated temporarily to allow selective harvesting, ensuring the city has a steady supply of fresh seafood without overfishing the surrounding waters.

The architecture here includes domed structures and arches made from coral and reinforced sea stone, blending naturally into the floating underside. The domes serve multiple purposes: they protect the crops from strong undercurrents, house the farming tools, and provide spaces for the gardeners to rest or seek shelter during their work. Bioluminescent algae and enchanted lights illuminate the gardens, creating a serene, glowing landscape that's visible even from above the water during the night.

It's a place where the rhythms of daily life are intimately tied to the natural ebb and flow of the tides, reflecting a deep harmony between the city's inhabitants and their aquatic environment.
