Mites and flea bites suggested small animals were affected; knocked unconscious, Rainclaw saw visions of rat families and then humans being corrupted. Taz'Or Ka revealed his true reason for coming: his village elders show the same signs. Bodies nearby had been cut in two with key organs surgically removed and large syringe marks. Rainclaw took ears for a necklace, Slick built a sled to haul the bodies, and on the road to a nearby town the party found more mutilated corpses, one a hotel owner Brother Oils recognised. Near a stand of trees Uldrick saw a silent, insect-like humanoid drop a body and vanish.
