The Corruption

Lore Campaign 4 · The Godscar

Black, ichor-leaking transmutation and necromancy pushing up from beneath Sandwater Slough and spreading beyond it.

The Corruption is the campaign-wide threat of the Godscar: transmutation and necromancy magic that twists living things, pushing up from beneath Sandwater Slough. Its forms have included eight-legged spider-rats led by a ratfolk warlock under The House of Amber, a two-headed adolescent owlbear leaking black ichor and its corrupted family in The Dragontooth Mountains foothills, corrupted seahorses, "spring-onion" folk and coral merfolk beneath The Tallow Stair, and the twisted Archivist in Rillachor, who fell without stopping it. When a host dies the corruption recedes from its face.

The party recovered a mote of corruption, which The SCP called the largest infestation they had seen; reports exist from Xinstock, Reidmark Haven and elsewhere. Slick identified the corruption orb as a creature under shapechange and then clone, cast on itself. According to the Amber Queen, Asmodeus owns the contract for the corruption under the city. Dr Leith suspects the dragonborn. Taz'Or Ka's village elders show the same signs, and Rainclaw has had visions of rat families, then humans, being corrupted. The surgical vivisectors on the road south may be adjacent to it.
