Branestone

Place Campaign 2 · After Skyfire

A now impoverished community on the west coast of the Great Expanse.

Branestone was the site of the Broomstone mines that the Prismatic College and the city of Duskmere used to create their flying vessels.

Airships have not come in 10 years, and those that did were unmanned. The residents of the small town that grew up around the mine quickly took to salvaging the Broomstone to expand their village.

Along the south face dozens of residences and at the westernmost end a large carved out area that serves as the town square, though in minimal use there is a moderate amount of refuse and disposed of components of airships and mine barges.

At the bottom of the canyon, a small tributary runs from a caved in cave entrance, freshwater flowing into the sea. The flow is stifled in places by dams at various intervals. Closer inspection shows that these were wooden and stone collapsed elements of the city that have fallen into the canyon.

The northern face of the canyon has the majority of the commerce and civic facilities:

Temple Of The First Thunder.

A temple to Hoar that if inspected closely will be seen to be built in the remnants of a desecrated temple to Gond. Designed like a kind of amphitheatre, there is a levitating apparatus in the centre of the space which seems to move of its own accord, a 2 faced coin where both faces have a missing eye. Arcana/investigation 20 would reveal that it is powered by Broomstone. A dark skinned priest tends to the grounds, his name is Enegod Tanonel, he has smooth black skin and straight black hair. He has a square jaw and a short, bristly beard. He appears to be in his 40s, but the slight point to his ears belies an ancestry that may extend further back. There are many grooves within the rear wall of the amphitheatre with curses of lead carved into them.

The Red Command.

A military barracks that serves as both the town guard and what passes as a standing army. Perhaps a hundred or so capable soldiers who work shifts on the top wall and about in the city. Led by J****aecoby Millerchip a young short but solid human who has tanned skin and a bit of peach fuzz on his chin, a very obviously broken nose that juts to the left. He appears to be of around 25 years of age and paces quite a lot. He is the cousin of Nedda Wisacre, who is the Polemarch Of Branestone.

The Convocation Of Stone

A council chambers where Polemarch Nedda Wisacre sits at the head of her council of 5, her nephew Jaecoby Millerchip, the Shadow of Justice Enegod Tanonel, Voxis, the architect arcane, and Thorbert, eyes in the desert.

The Reliquary

Part museum, part arcane store. Run by the architect arcane Voxis this multi room facility houses many of the relics of the time under the boot of Duskmere. Voxis works on enchanting various things here and testing the capabilities and limits of broomstone. She has several hodmedods that when activated with control crystals go a bit mad and try and smash their way out of the containment vessel she has them in.
She can share information about cystals and how the ships function as well as teach some spells .

The Howling wind

A prison facility near the lip of the canyon where the wind blows quite loudly, making casual conversation difficult.

The Rampway

A pathway leading down from the over city on the northern lip of the canyon. It swaps twice across broomstone elevated bridges before carrying on down to the prison level. This has the double effect of exposing incoming people to the city of guards stationed at 2 locations before they get within range of a manual attack.

The Over City

consists of several large decrepit and run down warehouses, a city wall and a now destroyed landing tower for airships. The fortifications have been further improved with the wreckage of more than a dozen airships, some of them similar to the small vessel the party has, and some much larger as if designed for cargo. There is a small office here that

The Cliff Notes InnYet another stone structure with a small wooden exterior garden rounded in on the thickest section of the pathway. Designed to collect as much sun throughout the day as possible. Rough-hewn tables arranged haphazardly with accommodation inside, though they are of poor quality they are expensive, as there have been no travellers in many years, the rooms have been left to wallow. The furniture inside is mostly broken, and the chimney is blocked in with a bird next. The Palatial apartments or smaller rooms are available. Regardless, Fran and Shay Hensouth will attempt to charge several gold pieces. Twins, unmarried, in their late 30s, they inherited the Inn from their father when he passed. They are obviously related as they share a frame and demeanour, though her hair is shot with white, and he is near to bald.

In campaign 2

Branestone was the airship's destination in 1034. A rider on the horizon fled toward the town ahead of the party. Scribble later counted "the nutbar from Branestone" among his contacts.
