The Charcoal Ward

Mostly accommodations, the apartment facilities closer to the edges are of higher quality. A fine layer of soot covers most everything, and the streets become progressively more dank as you make your way to the Centre. There is a paved square at the middle, many of the gutters seem to run downward to this point and there is a drainage system feeding into a Subterranean sewer system linked to the river. There is a statue here of Burzum, it is partly corroded, has a rough-hewn patina and is covered in the same layer of soot that seems prolific in the city. Just the left hand, which appears to be a mechanical claw, shows untarnished metal. Likely due to the superstition of luck from the Founder.

Most apartments are studio or 2 bedrooms, there are larger ones near to the borders with The Walls

Motel Styx

With the wonderful catchphrase, Sleep like the dead. This slightly infernal themed hostel is run by a Gender-fluid, pan sexual and overtly flirty lizard folk named Saphijin. Each room is dry and mostly clean though a little dusty with soot, and includes simple bedding and linen, a room only costs 4 silver pieces for the night. There are 16 rooms and most are empty as visitors are rare. Occasionally someone from another town will stay. Currently, the only other guest is a hedge wizard orc named Alban that has come in from the Stone Forest to undertake some study. He is studying some potion craft and has saved up sufficiently to take a short course at the Maple Park Technical School on Geology, though he cannot afford to stay closer in the defence as the Remington Lodge charges over 10 gold per night.
