Luggard Dror
Place Campaign 2The largest and Most populated city in the Free, Capitalism incarnate
Luggard Dror is the largest city of The Free and "capitalism incarnate". It is a tiered industrial city run by four great corporations and the Concorde Bancorp, and it is connected to the rest of the Free by the Lightning Rail. Its founder, Burzum "Black Iron", built it around 740 PC, at the age of forty, after the orcs and warforged of the islands made peace; he is remembered with small, shabby statues. The players spelled it Lugendraw and Luggendraw.
Campaign 2 (1034 PC).
- The party's jobs in the city included the train heist (where "nothing stops the money train") and the dam heist for the crime boss Azguk, investigating the Carbonhill Company's warforged smuggling, and the plague ship in the harbour, whose infected bodies spread Sight Rot to the city's seagulls.
- The city's districts: the Charcoal Ward, the Battery (the hydro dam), Storetown, Ravenport, the Trainyard (Lightning Rail station), the Barrio (a slum port for smuggling), the Defence (a suspended structure facing the harbour) and the Guri Dam.
- In 1034 PC the city held presidential elections on 3 Frost Fall, the Turdas before Orctoberfest. There were three candidates, and by 2023-05-24 (real date) two of them were dead. Fascinatia set Xosomasaux to steer the result, and Azguk wanted "the status quo maintained". The party ended up following a set-up trail toward the Forum.
The city (Scabard)
Luggard Dror is a tiered industrial city with factories and warehouses throughout, much of the living quarters are the city are below the suspended capital and organisational buildings. Most of the buildings are apartment blocks or hostelries.
It is bisected below the defence by the River Dyeal (pronounced dial)
Luggard Dror was founded by Burzum "Black Iron". Though dead some 250 years, his legacy is present in many small statues and memorials in the plazas of the city. Most are particularly small and shoddy, and are not maintained. There is also a wing in The Maple Park Technical School dedicated to him. With a small library and museum. It is believed to be funded by a large bequeathing that is enormous and earning interest in the vaults of the Concorde Bancorp
The city is made up of several wards.
The Defence, high above the central part of the city, suspended on a platform of iron and stone, accessible only by funicular and only by those with the correct documentation.
The Charcoal Ward, below the defence, where many of the residential properties are located, shielded from the sun it is always damp, always with a layer of soot.
The Walls, 4 to in some places 5 story wall along the southern extent of the city. Built into this are many more palatial in-city accommodations. 4 and 5-bedroom villas with views in both directions, almost as high as The Defence. Purchasing a property here costs many hundreds of thousands of gold pieces, though there are always a few available, as fortunes are made and lost.
The Battery. Lots of forges and smithy are also in this area, and manufacture and factories seem to be the business of the area. Among the streets here, certain spaces are cleaner and house the offices and showrooms of the various producers, most famous among them is Enoch The Weaponsmith. The Battery Dam, officially named the Guri Dam, has a subterranean spillway called The Warrens. It is connected to the sewer and is sometimes used by street gangs to move good surreptitiously. It is a particularly favoured by The Mothmen.
The aptly named Storetown, consisting mostly row upon row of factory and warehouses. Some child labour, but mostly stowage and offices for companies.
The Outskirts. Many more factories, smelters and additional warehousing. Some slight quarrying and mining for close to the surface available minerals, but no deep excavation, yet.
The dock area known as Ravenport. 6 large piers as well as 2 dry-docks, facilities for an air dock though in disrepair, submersibles and fishing skiffs make their way to a marina slightly north of the city. There are various automated tug boats and mooring systems.
The Train Yard has 2 distinct purposes. The Lightning Rail station as well as porter facilities for transferring goods from there to Storetown.
There are three distinct rail lines:
- A mostly first class coastal line to Luggard Springs, where many of the wealthiest families of the city have their estates. Morning and evening services run, allowing for the upper class who do not live withing The Walls to spend their evenings at home.
- The Goods Line, that heads to the mines far to the south within theMidzen Id (also colloquially known as the Stone Forest) twice-weekly.The direct line to theNascent Fieldswhere the most interesting research and technology, (the warforged birthing factories) are located.
A small less used and far shadier port on the eastern edge of the city known as The Barrio, known for several small bars where deals are made such as The Marigold, run by Ghok, a lieutenant of The Mothman, and The Unchangeable Lantern, the more upscale of the two, selling imported spirits at a huge markup. The Barrio is also home to the Thieves Dock, a controlled , customs free entry to the city.
The ferry The Cordata runs from Luggard Dror to Reefwatch in about ten days, by way of Vistas Landing and the Chitin Isles dig. Morn and Bula, who keep a tavern in Reefwatch, are Luggard Dror orcs.
Also known as Luggard Drors, Lugendraw, Luggendraw, LD.
