The Span
Place Campaign 2A gargantuan bridge spanning over 50 miles connecting the Chitin Isles to Cratis.
The Span is a gargantuan bridge, over fifty miles long, linking The Chitin Isles to Creatis. Approaching by land, travellers first see the great stone fingers arching above the roadway; the bridge is so long that its curve hides much of it from view.
It rises from about 100 feet above the sea at its western abutment to 500 feet at the middle. Its piers stand half a mile apart, twenty of them, each shaped like an enormous godly forearm reaching up from the sea to hold the spans aloft, with a cutwater carved as a bracer. The stone is an almost golden limestone that catches the light brilliantly, the spandrels are carved with coastal scenes, and sea plants grow thick around the bases. The roadway is well-kept white gravel, mostly 30 feet wide, narrowing to 20 at each hand-shaped pylon, where discreet garderobes hang off the south side. Well-maintained pitons run along the outer faces.
Beneath the middle two spans hangs Hanging Suncloud, the village of about fifty halflings who maintain the bridge and collect its toll of 1 gp a head. Reefwatch is a little over a day east along a well-kept road.
