The Velvet Ledger House
Place Campaign 4Sandwater Slough's dockside customs office, which stamps the city's export tallies.
The Velvet Ledger House is the customs office of Sandwater Slough, a stone building fronting directly onto the docks of The Wharfward Strip, with green-painted shutters and bronze-banded double doors. Inside are long counting halls lined with desks, high shelves of bound ledgers and oil lamps that are never allowed to go out; the windows are narrow and set high. A secure annex at the rear connects to the bonded warehouses. The House processes shipping manifests, cargo disputes and port fees, and when a cargo's paperwork is incomplete or contested, it reassigns ownership.
Before the Low Lantern flood, Slick found that its export tallies made sense on their own but stopped matching Olive Press Row's barrel counts and bonded-warehouse intake once they were lined up across years.
