The Low Lantern Archive

The Low Lantern Archive is a narrow, fortified record house in The Gutterline Warrens of Sandwater Slough, storing expired contracts, shipping manifests, old indenture agreements, insurance claims and beast reports. Access requires a written petition (or silver for the clerk). It sits below street level: a sunken chamber of grey masonry and close-packed shelving reached by a single stair, kept dry with charcoal pans, with no rear exit. Its rear wall backs onto old sewer masonry and an overflow culvert. Its staff were Archivist Denevar Holt, the clerk Pira Quillstep and the dragonborn guard Veskan; Lornik Bale tends its lamps.

People

• Archivist Denevar Holt (missing from the day of the flood; later found dead beneath the city)
• Pira Quillstep, retrieval clerk
• Veskan, red-scaled dragonborn guard (died of his wounds after the flood)
• Lornik Bale, who tends its lamps

The Low Lantern Flood

On the morning of 18 Suns Dusk 1047 PC the four founding members of the party were all in or near the Archive for their own reasons when the rear wall burst under hydraulic force and the chamber filled with warm, high-grade vintage olive oil within seconds, deliberately pumped through the storm culvert from infrastructure tied to Three Anchors Square. At the same moment Uldrick arrived through the Conduit. Small winged black imps in the oil, the Grrlips, went for one book: ship registrations of the southern seas going back more than twenty years. The party killed them and kept that book, Uldrick's infernal book (Stephen's Record of Infernal Spells), Slick's oil-wastage records and Taz'Or Ka's book of insurance payouts. Rainclaw pulled Veskan out of the oil three times. The Archivist had not come to work that day and was missing. See the session C4 · Wednesday 18 February 2026 · The Low Lantern Flood.
