The Necessary Wildness
Lore Campaign 4Sealed alien ecologies grown by Rillachor's engineers across the south to harvest materials for their last star ship.
The Necessary Wildness is the name Rillachor's engineers gave to controlled slivers of alien ecology, summoned through the Navigator's Organ and grown behind sealed, colour-marked doors to produce materials the continent could not: metals, woods, resins, corals, fungal plates and living conductors for the last Star Scorpion ship. Every grove had a harvest ledger with a casualty column.
According to The Seven Journals of Mechanus the zones include the Red-Gold Furnace Grove (beneath Mahovana), the Green-White Drowning Orchard (beneath The Dragontooth Mountains), the Blue-Black Thornwomb (beneath Rillachor), the Silver-Violet Choir Glade (below Reidmark Haven), the Amber-Grey Ashbeds (below Hysteria) and the Black-Lantern Mycelium (below Starfall Station).
The party opened Rillachor's Conservatory of Necessary Wildness, a door onto jungle, and released Thistle Jack. Later, beneath Ashwell, they entered another Wildness site, fought rust monsters, met dust creatures and gathered its soft ash, while hippo-men of The Guild of Harrow had been harvesting materials there for years.
The released groves
In September 1047 the party learned from Saev Althene-Rho, a survivor of Rillachor, that several groves have broken loose, not just Rillachor's. They have matched the groves to planes as best they can:
| Grove | Where | The party's guess |
|---|---|---|
| Blue-Black Thornwomb | beneath Rillachor | the Feywild (Thistle Jack came from here) |
| Amber-Grey Ashbeds | below Hysteria and Ashwell | Mechanus |
| Red-Gold Furnace Grove | Mahovana, the "furthest grove", now a small village | the Hells |
| Green-White Drowning Orchard | the mountains behind Creatis | probably the Plane of Water; it has also unleashed something |
| Black-Lantern Mycelium | below Starfall Station | unknown |
| Silver-Violet Choir Glade | below Reidmark Haven | unknown |
The planes behind the mushroom grove and the Choir Glade are still unknowns.
Also known as The Wildness, Necessary Wildness, Conservatory of Necessary Wildness.
