Meradana
NPC Campaign 2Pirate of the Broken Bones who bargained with the King in Yellow to keep a forest alive.
Meradana was a member of The Broken Bones. In 1034 she was last seen at Shore Market, crewing up, and later set up a store in Reefwatch. Before the pirates sealed The Red Wastes in their time bubble she had worked to save a forest from erosion and decline, and she struck a deal, with Thekelan acting for The King In Yellow, to keep it alive "for a million generations". The List of Contracts records the bargain: the beloved Axebane forest will exist for a million million generations.
Saber (Saber Netherthirst) promised to retrieve the Fork for her. The pirates' letter to Clef (The Undercommon notebook) is attributed to her. She was dead by the end of 1034.
The forest was The Axebane, where she grew up. Erosion along the coast and a change in the weather, knock-on effects of the drying of the dwarven steppe when Herentor's weather spell was dispelled (Herentor's Wall), had begun to kill it, and hot winds were blowing in. Her wish is counted variously as "a thousand generations" and "a thousand times a thousand generations" (conflict #61).
