Herentor's Wall
Lore Campaign 1Campaign 2Campaign 4A 10th-level working that hid the southern half of the world, even from other planes, and erased all memory of it; destroyed in the final months of the Skyfire (1019 PC).
Herentor's Wall is the great separation Herentor raised at the end of The Calamity. Using the soul of Mystra, she cast Planetary Schism, Global Suggestion and Cosmic Lock, which locked the southern continent away from the north. The sources also call it Herentor's veil, Herentor's spell, or simply "the wall".
It was a 10th-level spell. It hid the entire southern part of the world behind a barrier that nothing could pass, not even by travelling through other planes, and it wiped every person's memory of what lay beyond it, so that north and south each believed the other did not exist.
Its fall. The veil was destroyed in the final months of The Skyfire (1019 PC). The campaigns' rough dates fit:
- In 1034 PC (campaign 2), the warforged of the Nascent Fields had stopped coming to life "16 years ago", which "aligns with the wall coming down". The same sixteen years saw Berzen's conquest of the land. "The wall" stood on the south-east corner of the left major continent.
- The rise of The King In Yellow in the south dates from the same sixteen years.
- In campaign 4, Branock of the House of Amber said that "once North and South were no longer separated", northern agents came south offering deals.
- The ruins of Rillachor show that astral elves had pierced Herentor's spell long ago. Their terraforming of the south lay dormant after the city was abandoned around 720 PC. The fall of the veil in 1019 PC set it running out of control: The Great Evaporation, the desertification of The Restless Expanse.
- The Seven Journals of Mechanus call it "Herentor's lock", date its fall to "T-26", and say the southern continents were severed from the wider world under it.
The warforged. The Veil cut about a thousand northern Gen 1 warforged off from the Soul Luxon in The Nascent Fields, so they never cycled through reforging. When Burzum tore out the Luxon about 300 years ago, the Veil shielded those northern Gen 1s from the ripple that disabled the southern ones. SAM is one of the survivors.
In campaign 2 it is called the Weather Wall and "the great illusion". Its fall turned the grasslands of The Restless Expanse to desert and, as a knock-on effect, brought coastal erosion and hot winds that threatened The Axebane.
Also known as Herentor's Veil, Herentor's spell, The Cosmic Lock, Cosmic Lock, the wall.
