Campaign 1: The Skyfire Chronicles
- Real dates: first session Monday 2019-04-15 (the earliest session page is C1 · Monday 29 April 2019 · The Baron's tasks), finale 2021-05-10. Play was weekly on Mondays, online during the 2020 to 2021 lockdowns. The table first called it "the Skyfire Chronicles (prequel)", and the codex front page lists it as "The Skyfire Chronicles".
- In-world: it ends with The Skyfire, which runs from 17 First Seed to 26 Hearth Fire 1019 PC. The start year is unrecorded. In January 2021 (real time) the party noted 17 First Seed 1019 as "a couple of months from now".
- Party: The Fatemakers:
- Braggum, half-orc barbarian, founder of the Bragglands; after the Skyfire he vanished into the northern mountains of the Bragglands
- Bralmur, dwarven paladin of Helm with a celestial buffalo (Oath of Vengeance); worshipped at Jarren's Outpost, he later succeeded Jokit as The Everbright
- Cirella, Levistus tiefling Forge cleric of Gond and archaeologist
- Phantom flavour of the wind, kalashtar bard of the College of Glamour and entertainer, a people "of two minds", who appeared human
- Daxon ShellFirst, snapping-turtle tortle Circle of Spores druid and anthropologist, who boarded the first ship to learn about people
- Wraithian Moore, stout halfling Swashbuckler rogue and mercenary veteran, favoured by Loviatar
- Morgaine, Wild Magic sorcerer, a human turned into a dachshund by wild magic; a Wish near the end made him a golden dragonling (he kept a PC stat block)
- Theo, a bard, was a PC in the first months. She went home to The Dottenland before "the culling"; her player left and Phantom's player joined.
- The party started at level 1, reached level 18 by the end of 2020 and level 20 by the end of the campaign.
- Premise:
- The party washed up in Bosia and worked for a town wizard, Delin, who was secretly a warlock of an eldritch power called The Aspect and manipulated the cults the party met. The cults' original villain plot partly fed into this.
- They were drawn into the court intrigue of Xinstock, where they unmasked the dragon Sim, and into the dwarven depths of Kheledzund, where they found Zarok the Thrice Scarred.
- A sphinx in The Burg sent them into the bodies of the original Fatemakers, the heroes who ended The Calamity, to fight its final battle (C1 · Monday 16 March 2020 · The pre-Calamity flashback).
- They averted a war between the Empire and The Dottenland, and killed Delin in September 2020 (real time).
- Meteorites "from beyond the spheres" brought on the endgame.
- Ending: in the last sessions Braggum "telefragged" the big bad with the party's planeshifting ship (C1 · Monday 3 May 2021 · Telefrag), and the finale was played on 2021-05-10 (C1 · Monday 10 May 2021 · Finale: The Aspect Falls). The Fatemakers killed the Aspect, Ulamog, an interdimensional being from beyond wildspace, in the ruins of old Xinstock where New Xinstock now stands. By then they had also defeated Herminius the Lich and The Ashkarn. Herentor's Veil, which had hidden the south, was destroyed in the Skyfire's final months, and the Xinsi emperor was dead before it ended. The PCs' individual fates (their "epitaphs") aren't recorded in the sources. The epilogue describes the "Ruination", a second calamity:
- Xinstock was teleported into the northern sea, leaving New Xinstock in its crater.
- The Dottenland fell to revolution and became Potenxia.
- Bosia was decimated, and the Bragglands grew.
- The Therian Confederacy closed itself off.
- A one-shot, The Battle for Xinstock (2021-04-26), showed the city's last hours.
Campaign 2: After Skyfire
Real dates: session 0 on 2021-05-17 (C2 · Monday 17 May 2021 · Session 0), first session 2021-05-24 (C2 · Monday 24 May 2021 · Establishing session), finale 2023-07-19 (C2 · Wednesday 19 July 2023 · Finale: The Siege of Talonkeep), epilogue 2023-07-26 (C2 · Wednesday 26 July 2023 · Epilogue). Play moved from Mondays to Wednesdays in August 2022.
In-world: starts on 18 Suns Dawn 1034 PC, the 613th anniversary of the coronation of Maxim, first emperor of Xinsi, fifteen to sixteen years after the Skyfire. The Xinsi Empire had been without an emperor for sixteen years. Scribble collapsed The Prismatic College in 1034.
Party:
- Scribble, kenku wizard
- Xosomasaux, tabaxi Scout rogue and urban bounty hunter, pressed into Fascinatia and Demobray's service and sent south by the thieves' guild of Luktow and blessed by the Dawnfather
- Ebony, loxodon Circle of the Shepherd druid and outlander who fled his grove, afraid of failing his family's legacy
- Keso Jeaeii, Bosian myconid warlock of the Undying, whose patron is the swamp that Daxon became
- Olaf Atlason, old reborn Armorer artificer, rebuilt by Gurgle after an illithid, who wields the Hand of the King in Yellow
- SAM (S.A.M. #19), warforged Path of the Beast barbarian and shipwright, who once walked alone into Mechanus
- General Xalner, who died in the first episode; the pirates kept his talking head
- The party started at level 1, reached level 19 by June 2023 and level 20 by the end of the campaign.
Premise: the first campaign in the newly opened south. The party escorted a sealed chest across the southern lands while being hunted by The Broken Bones, a pirate crew whose members all held The King In Yellow's contracts. The campaign ranged over:
- The Khevasa Wildlands and Wildharbour;
- Saratan and Vistas Landing;
- The Free, with Luggard Dror's heists and elections and the warforged of the Nascent Fields;
- Duskmere and Fort Obsidian;
- Mycelia, the Feywild and Mechanus.
Olaf tore up the King in Yellow's contracts in December 2022 (real time). Scribble created or awakened the kenku god Quorlinn, later the Feathered Deceiver, and the party pursued the spell Sever the Pact Primeval. The chest held the Fork, an interplanar tuning fork that let the party Plane Shift to the Hells to retrieve the contracts. SAM signed the devil Torganoth's contract.
The one-shots of the period are all canon: "the crew of the Nimbus" (Meanwhile in Wildspace), "Let's drink Blue Wine together" (see Duke Feriland) and the players' own mini-campaign of March to April 2022.
Ending: the Siege of Talonkeep (2023-07-19) against the warforged Dhum, agent of Orcus, who led a corrupted march of a million modrons on an interplanar invasion. Allies included Braggum and Morgaine from campaign 1. SAM sacrificed himself to destroy the massive robot body Dhum had built; Ebony revived him with his vestige at the cost of 3 Intelligence, which left Ebony simple, until Scribble tracked him down months later and restored him with a risky Wish. In the epilogue, "the heroes of yore return to their lands… the wizards of the City of Birds are emboldened by the victory of their cohort". Keso built a mushroom tower up to 40,000 ft tall and lives in its penthouse. Whether Sever the Pact Primeval was cast isn't recorded in the sources.
Campaign 3: The Twilight Anarchy
Real dates: campaign brief released 2023-07-27, session 1 on 2023-10-18 (C3 · Wednesday 18 October 2023 · Shade Hollow), finale 2026-01-21 (C3 · Wednesday 21 January 2026 · Finale: The Battle with the Harsh), epilogue 2026-01-28 (C3 · Wednesday 28 January 2026 · Epilogue: Epitaphs).
In-world: starts on 1 Evening Star 1040 PC, in Shade Hollow on the border of Potenxia (the former Dottenland) and The Burg. The calendar holds a campaign 3 reminder dated 1046 PC.
Party:
- Binkette
- Kael Sunstrike of the Unbroken Light, human monk of the Long Death, now Lord of the Hunt
- Ono Palevo
- Reid Ransom
- Thoren Blackthorn
- Aniketos, human cleric of the Vigil's Custodians, who joined in December 2023; on 2025-07-23, after a myconid curse took him, Thoren disintegrated him
- Binkette Hutch is a harengon Eloquence bard and Archfey warlock of Shoshana with three lives from his Counselor's Code; Thoren's necromancy made his brother a zombie
- The party started at level 1, reached level 19 by June 2025 and level 20 by the end of the campaign.
Premise: a mine, a missing Source and a town trapped in shared dreams led to Lord Cedric's Eightfold, his manipulated champions, and to The Nocturnal Loom, which had planned all along to raise the Harsh and manipulated Cedric to that end. Behind them stood The Harsh, a betrayed god seeking to break the Divine Gate and be worshipped as the world's saviour. The party:
- gathered the Sources;
- descended to the Underdark and the Elemental Planes;
- learned that the moon Zelyr is the Harsh's phylactery, and saw it crack in 1041 PC, near the end of the campaign; the rest of the campaign took only a couple of weeks in-world.
In April 2025 (in-world 1040 PC) a new party came to Fort Obsidian to hunt the Eightfold (Return To Fort Obsidian), which is part of this campaign.
Ending: in October 2025 (real time) the party convinced every god to unite against the Harsh (see The New Gods). The last sessions took place inside the Shackle, with each PC in a mirror shard. The Harsh fell. The Divine Gate stayed intact, held by a single Source, and the other Sources are slowly returning to their gods over the course of a century. After the fall of the Panopticon Zenith, the surviving Vigil's Custodians retreated to the Archive of Echoes.
Campaign 4: The Godscar
- Real dates: announced 2026-01-22, session 1 on 2026-02-18 (C4 · Wednesday 18 February 2026 · The Low Lantern Flood), ongoing on Wednesdays. The party started at level 1 and is now level 8.
- In-world: starts on the morning of 18 Suns Dusk 1047 PC in Sandwater Slough, the free city of olive oil and indenture on the southern coast.
- Party:
- Brother Oils, faith healer and bard
- Rainclaw Foundwhiskers, ranger raised by rats
- Taz'Or Ka, lizardfolk hunter
- Uldrick, dwarf from the vanished Citadel
- Slick, artificer
- Premise:
- A flood of vintage olive oil burst into the Low Lantern Archive, which led to King in Yellow contracts and a Baron bound by one.
- A spreading corruption runs beneath the city, and under it lies the astral-elven city of Rillachor with its crashed stargate.
- Thistle Jack is loose.
- The party has ventured west to the desert towns of Ashwell and Hysteria.
- Ending: the campaign is still being played.
Dating
The present is 1047 PC. The campaign years once listed on the codex front page (1006, 1008, 1014 and 1032 PC) were estimates; the dates from play put campaign 2's start at 18 Suns Dawn 1034 PC and campaign 3's at 1 Evening Star 1040 PC.
