The Source

Item Campaign 3 · The Twilight Anarchy

Divine artefacts that anchor the Divine Gate; the MacGuffins of campaign 3.

The Sources (also called Source spheres or source anchors) are artefacts of ancient divine power that anchor The Divine Gate, guarded by the Shackles. One sat in a socket in a geode at the bottom of the Shade Hollow mine until it was taken; a ghost in the mine demanded "WHERE IS THE SOURCE". Others lay in the Bay of Swords, Penumbra Massif, the Verdant Vale, the Beastlands and on the elemental planes, the Feywild and the Shadowfell. Lord Cedric gathered them for The Nocturnal Loom, believing they would let him blot out the sun.

The party collected them too. Named Sources include the Shattered Mirror, the Celestial Weaver, the Infinite Scroll, the Eternal Sentinel, Chained Oblivion, the Master Maker, the Thrice Scarred, the Whispered Betrayer and The Magic of Cartoons. By August 2024 the party held three; by June 2025, after killing the Wild Hunt, they had claimed the rest.

After The Harsh fell at the end of campaign 3, The Divine Gate was left anchored by a single Source. The others are slowly returning to their gods over the course of a century.
