The Twilight Anarchy
Event Campaign 3Campaign 3 (2023-10-18 to 2026-01-28), beginning 1 Evening Star 1040 PC in Shade Hollow.
The Twilight Anarchy was campaign 3, played from 2023-10-18 to 2026-01-28. In-world it began on the first day of Evening Star, 1040 PC, in Shade Hollow, a tin-mining town on the border of Potenxia (the former Dottenland) and The Burg. The party: Kael Sunstrike, Thoren Blackthorn, Reid Ransom, Binkette, Ono Palevo and, from December 2023 until his death in July 2025, Aniketos.
Arc
- The Shade Hollow mystery (late 2023). The foreman Borak vanished after digging straight down to a geode whose socket had held The Source. Anyone who went down was drawn into shared dreams, linked to the governor's daughter Evelina Crane. Lord Cedric and his mercenaries used Protocol Theta on the mine.
- The Eightfold (2024). The Eightfold were Cedric's champions, whom he had manipulated into helping him. The party chased Cedric to Rookfall, under The Veil of Letherna, broke the Eightfold's teahouse cell in the Fogsteps, and hunted his generals across The Verdant Vale, the Feywild and the Underdark. They killed Brenor The Storms Fury and Lysara The Inquisitor, and in August 2024 bottled Cedric in an iron flask. Behind Cedric stood The Nocturnal Loom, which knew of the Harsh and had planned to raise him all along, feeding Cedric a forged prophecy.
- The Sources and the gods (late 2024 to mid 2025). The Sources protect The Divine Gate, which keeps the gods out of the world. The party found that The Harsh and The Orb Weaver had bound The Infinite Scroll, that the dead were being siphoned into pods in the Shadowfell through The Taps, and that Selarith was the Harsh's agent. They killed Cedric and the Silent Echo in February 2025, the moon cracked in May 2025, and they killed the Wild Hunt and claimed the remaining Sources.
- The Harsh (mid 2025 to January 2026). After Thoren disintegrated Aniketos, who carried a myconid curse, the party entered the Orb Weaver's dreams, saw the Harsh kill her inside The Shackle, convinced every god to stand against him, and faced him in The Battle with the Harsh on 2026-01-21. The epilogue followed on 2026-01-28.
Ending
The Harsh fell. The Divine Gate stayed intact, held now by a single Source, and the other Sources are slowly returning to their gods over the course of a century. The moon Zelyr, the Harsh's phylactery, had cracked in 1041 PC, near the end of the campaign: everything that followed, from the Wild Hunt and Blackrib Bastion to the trials of the gods and the battle with the Harsh, took only a couple of weeks. (An earlier remark that it cracked "12 years ago" from the start of campaign 4 is superseded.)
After the fall of The Panopticon Zenith, the surviving members of the Vigil's Custodians retreated to The Archive of Echoes. The one-session Return To Fort Obsidian (played April 2025, set in 1040 PC), with a new party hunting the Eightfold, is part of this campaign.
