Lord Cedric

Lord Cedric Vanthorn, Commander of The Eightfold, was the chief villain of the first half of The Twilight Anarchy: a corpulent, flamboyant drow noble whom the party took for a buffoon. He arrived in Shade Hollow with mercenaries from the Dottenland's capital just after the foreman Borak vanished, secured the mine, and unleashed Protocol Theta there. His coded note, signed "Lord Cedric Vanthorn, Commander of the Eightfold", told an informant to watch for clues in "her dreams" (Evelina Crane) and to send word to the Eightfold's location in the Fogsteps.

He believed himself the "arbiter of twilight" of The Prophecy of the Arbiter of Twilight and sought to blot out the sun by gathering the Sources. He was a pawn of The Harsh, steered by The Nocturnal Loom, which had planned to raise the Harsh all along. Cedric in turn manipulated his own champions, the generals of the Eightfold, into helping him. In August 2024 the party trapped him in an iron flask. On 2025-02-26 his allies, with the Silent Echo, mass-dominated Shade Hollow to force his release; the party let him out, questioned him and killed him after he survived his fireball contingency. His last warning was "when a god dies, keep it that way". Thoren Blackthorn keeps his soul in a box.

Prep notes

His mission. Cedric meant to use the souls gathered in The Lethernian Lattice to black out the entire sky, extending The Veil of Letherna's shadow over the whole world. The Nocturnal Loom manipulated him towards a different end.
