The Skyfire
Event Campaign 1In 1019 PC the Fatemakers battled an incursion of primal forces bent on planar consumption. Its end closed the first campaign.
The Skyfire began with the first calamity on First Seed 17, 1019 PC, and ended with the double calamity on Hearth Fire 26, 1019 PC. The Fatemakers fought an incursion of primal forces bent on planar consumption, and the events of the Skyfire Chronicles concluded with it. As of 1047 PC, twenty-eight years have passed.
In the Skyfire's final months Herentor's Veil, the barrier that had hidden the southern half of the world, was destroyed. The last Xinsi emperor was already dead before the Skyfire ended (see The Unseen Emperor). The Fatemakers ended it by killing The Aspect, Ulamog, in the ruins of old Xinstock, where New Xinstock now stands.
The run-up
In January 2021 (real time) the party's cleric noted "17 of First Seed, 1019 post calamity – a couple months from now", with "22 Hearthfire 1019" pencilled in with a question mark. The last months before the end brought meteorites "from beyond the spheres" and The Thing of Sadness at Luktow, dozens of falling balls fighting tentacles in The Dottenland, The Battle for Xinstock, the party's dash to "the lair of the aspect", and Braggum telefragging the big bad with the party's ship. The finale was played on 10 May 2021 (see C1 · Monday 10 May 2021 · Finale: The Aspect Falls).
Aftermath
The epilogue calls it a "second calamity", the Ruination that befell the nations of the north:
- The Therian Confederacy stayed closed off. No one knows how badly it suffered, though rumour says it was greatly diminished despite, or because of, its magic.
- The Dottenland lost most of its navy and then its army to aberrant kaiju. The tiered society of lords and dark elves fell, a revolution executed much of the royal family, and a democracy took over, though secret forces still vie for control. The country was renamed Potenxia, "never again" in the slaves' language.
- The Burg survived as it always does, losing many small villages. Jarren's Outpost, with its cult of "Leadbelt the Saviour", fought off the invasion.
- The Verdan were untouched, and Waves End endured.
- Summers End was damaged but grew fast, being newly close to the capital. A timely retreat deeper into the Bragglands and Luktow saved many lives. Bosia, with no standing army, was decimated, and its refugees poured into Luktow.
- Xinstock was teleported away, leaving a crater lake. Debris drifted to its centre, and returning settlers lashed it into a floating village, New Xinstock. Divers search the depths for ancient elven relics, and many expeditions have been lost. The emperor was dead with no heir, and the council squabbled.
- Many of the empire's southern towns were simply gone. West Keep, East Keep and Grimhollow stand, but many coastal villages were swept into the sea.
- The dwarven cities of the Ridgeway held, with damage to their outer gates. Kheledzund's great bridge collapsed into the Underdark and took years to rebuild.
