The Fatemakers

Faction Campaign 1 · The Skyfire Chronicles

Heroes of the Skyfire, named after the first group of heroes who overcame the Calamity. The party of campaign 1.

The Fatemakers fought The Skyfire in 1019 PC. They took their name from the first group of heroes who overcame the Calamity, the event that begins the Post Calamity era: the original Fatemakers were Herentor, Kilseth, Drawurum, Sploosh, Farberos, Hordal and Zaleon. In March 2020 (real time) a sphinx in The Burg sent the PCs into those heroes' bodies to fight the Calamity's final battle as the original Fatemakers (C1 · Monday 16 March 2020 · The pre-Calamity flashback).

Members

The bard Theo was a PC in the party's first weeks (2019) but went home to The Dottenland before the culling, so is not counted among the seven; Phantom's player took her player's place.

The name

The Fatemakers were first called that by the triton "fish monk" of the sunken temple. Delin's captured letter warned that killing them "will likely introduce new fatemakers", and by July 2019 they considered themselves "officially Fatemakers, 7 of us". There was also a goblin prophet, Grix Fatemaker, who called them Agents of Chaos; whether Grix gave the party its name is not settled (see codex/_conflicts.md).

Their story

The campaign ran from April 2019 to May 2021 (real time), from level 1 to level 20. The table called it "the skyfire chronicles (prequel)". It began with a shipwreck and the tasks of The Baron and the wizard Delin, who turned out to serve The Aspect. Bragg's player titled the "books" A Fateful Shipwreck, Goodbye to Sex Island (see Scinteria), The Bragglands and War Averted.

The Fatemakers' arcs, as of July 2020: the undead corruption of The Verdan; Pandemonium; Camar's vintage; the Thimblefoots and the Frigid Doom (The Thimblefoot Family); Loviatar and The Crying Quay; the City of Brass; The Calamity; Rob Boss and the Arthouse Mural (The Arthouse); the Meat Dimension; Orctoberfest and the Honeymoon Festival; the town with wooden dolls; the Brightwater on earth; an ancient forge; an academy of magic trapped in time; Tucker and his kobolds; Kheledzund; the Everbright and the Dark Mind; the endless franchises of Grobnak; and "the Bragglands" (the Lizard Liberation, Sim, Summers End and dealings with the Duke). The players added the conquest of the barbarian tribes, the toppling of the Diregraph Colossus and saving Waves End.

From there: the Void Box and The Skyrender Castle; the killing of Delin (September 2020); the 2020 finale; the Shadowfell and Auntie Suzie; The Thing of Sadness; The Battle for Xinstock; and The Skyfire itself (finale May 2021).

Allies and hangers-on included Squirt, Seven, Orryn and The Thimblefoot Family, Flind (bound to guard their bar), their informants and their ships The Hurricane and Celestia. Their home was The Arthouse in Xinstock.

After the Skyfire, the green dragonborn bard Melken swore vengeance on the Fatemakers' descendants, while Jarren's Outpost worshipped "Leadbelt the Saviour".

The party's plot hooks

The Fatemakers' shared notes (from around 1019 PC) define the Fatemakers simply as those with the power to change the world ("us"), and list each member's open threads:

  • Braggum: burning down The Burg; the Bragglands; the tentacle god's visions and the trek north to kill their source; Last Rites.
  • Bralmur: The Everbright, the dwarf city's troubles, shiny shields, an ancient forge and the Leadbelt family.
  • Cirella: more ruins, more maps, shinier shields than Bral's, and the ancient forge.
  • Morgaine: be less dog, become a powerful wizard, more fireballs.
  • Daxon: mushrooms, trees, crabs, more mushrooms, turtles.
  • Wraith: stabbing, the cultists at The Crying Quay, being wanted in Eau, and "boxes?".
  • Phantom: sweet solos, more ruffles, a lightning boomerang, and his father.
  • Theodore: whether the empire was going to war with The Dottenland.
  • Tothaloth, a goliath: swords.

The same notes record a masked attack at a gathering of nobles: drinks drugged so that guests collapsed, no guards in sight, crossbowmen in the rafters, a spell cast to shield one target, and a masked servant who beheaded a nobleman.
